How it all started

Paul Sueppel retired from the Iowa City Police force in 1995 and opened Sueppel’s Vinyl Siding, a small handyman business that installed siding, windows, and doors. He worked with a small team including Rick Lee, Scott Humphery and Jesse Streinz. GT Karr started working with him during high school, working weekends, and summer breaks. After graduating, he went to UNI for a construction management degree and then returned full-time. In 2002, Paul retired again and GT bought Sueppel’s from Paul. He expanded the scope to include home remodeling, renovations, and additions. Since then, what started as Sueppel’s Vinyl Siding has evolved into Sueppel’s Building and Remodeling while remaining family owned and operated.

Family-owned and operated since 1995, our team has more than 80 years of combined experience. We take great pride in our community and involvement in the trades. As part of our commitment to education, we work in partnership with Kirkwood Community College and the Iowa City Community School District. In addition to this, GT has served as the president and vice president for the Iowa City Home Builder’s Association and has been a chair member on the Remodeler’s Council and the Parade of Homes. He also has served on the Senior Housing Action Committee, Johnson County Climate Action Committee, and the Historic Preservation Commission.

We take pride in our reputation for quality service and teamwork. We take great pride in giving back to our community which has done so much to support us by guest lecturing in ACE classes at local high schools, participating in career days, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and so much more. In 2023 GT started teaching ACE classes part-time at Iowa City High School in addition to running the business. Our team is committed to safety, excellence, and professionalism in everything we do.
